To know me, you would have to learn about her
What brought her here and the trials and moments she had to endure
Where she came from and how she was raised
An unknowing pursuit of perfection and praise
She was sent the message that she would never be good or pretty enough
No one meant to do this on purpose
But if you looked beyond the surface
Outside, she looked confident and tough
But inside, she believed she would never be enough
Her face sometimes looked unapproachable to those who didn’t know her well
To look at her, you couldn’t tell
That inside, she really just wanted to feel acceptance and love from somewhere
She would do anything to show the people she loves that she cares
There wasn’t a size for her that was too small
From a little child into adulthood, the enemy helped her build that wall
She didn’t know it was there inside her heart and mind
Stuffing the words and feelings that hurt her, trying to leave them behind
He was always there tugging on her heart
Making appearances throughout her life from the start
She had a Grammy that prayed for her in every way
Providing God opportunities with new ways to speak to her every day
It didn’t make sense to her, but she knew He was real
Although His presence, she couldn’t yet feel
His love wasn’t something she could understand yet
But there was a different man she met
She was only seventeen
His attention for fleeting moments made her feel seen
She loved him with all of her heart
But he was never meant to fill that part
He didn’t have the ability to make her whole
In the beginning, she tried to perfectly play the image of that role
They had some good years and times together
But they took their eyes off of God and destroyed their forever
There 20 years together ended in a blast
It was like he forgot everything they had been through in the past
We really weren’t supposed to be together, he said one day
I prayed for this he continued to say
His eyes had changed, and it’s like he wasn’t even there
The man she thought she knew didn’t even care
To get him to stay, she would have been anyone he wanted her to be
She couldn’t open his eyes to see
God took her hand on that summer day in June when he left without a goodbye
On a journey of healing that would destroy every lie
The enemy had parts of her mind and heart that she didn’t even know he had access to
She believed the lies he presented from a child until now to be true
He broke her heart, but God used it to save her soul
Through her time of healing, His love made her whole
God made her in His image perfectly
Of all people, He created her specifically
With gifts and talents, He would bring out
Through every scripture, she read and learned more about
He replaced those lies with His truth
With a living book of His words and her life as proof
He healed her from every scar inside
He caused her to be humble and destroyed her pride
There was no room for that hurt girl anymore
God had so much ahead of her in store
In His perfect time, He moved her far away
From the only place she called home, where she thought she would always stay
God pointed her to a church and put specific people in her life to help her grow
The more time she spent with God
The more she craved to know
She just wanted to spend every moment with the One who created her heart
He put it back together even though it had been torn apart
It was a journey that took longer than she thought it would ever take
Through every act of obedience were new steps to make
The time when it was just her and God, He became her best friend
A never-ending dialogue with Him throughout the day that doesn’t end
She had completely given God all the broken pieces of her heart that He made
And he gave it to a man that had got down on his knees and prayed
For a woman who loves God just as much as he does
To build a new life together and not look back on what was
God had healed his heart from similar things
He chose this man to give her a gold ring
To answer a prayer, she had prayed for so long
Holding on to the promise God gave her, reminding the enemy he was wrong
To take her hand and give her a new name
To walk together on the journey that wouldn’t look the same
To learn together how to love and serve each other God’s way
To pray together and submit to Him every day
To learn their differences are really strengths to hold the other up when they are weak
That Jesus holds the only answers they seek
To know me, you would have to learn about her first
To hear about those times when she felt and was at her worst
He gave her the man that would hold her heart and hand
To listen to her and learn to understand
She had to be her to be the woman she has become
She had to leave behind her past because it’s done
God is guiding each step she will take
On this journey through life together, they both will make
Through the healing, God showed her who she was created to be
He delivered her and set her free
He showed her a love she had never known
There hasn’t been a moment He has ever left her alone
He’s been there from the beginning, even when she couldn’t see
If you knew her, you would know she is me
